When is the best time to visit Fes?

Fes is worth visiting year-round, but how comfortable it is to walk the medina varies a lot by season. Here is what to expect.

When is the best time to visit Fes?

Spring (March–May): the best window

Mild to warm days, cool evenings, gardens in bloom. This is the ideal time to walk the medina for hours and dine on the terrace. Book early — it is also the busiest.

Autumn (September–November): very pleasant

The summer heat drops, the light is lovely, and crowds thin out after October. A very good balance of weather and quiet.

Summer (June–August): hot by day

Afternoons can be heavy. Adjust the rhythm: sightsee early, rest at midday, head out again late. The riad rooms are air-conditioned and the courtyard stays cool.

Winter (December–February): cool and calm

Cool days, cold nights, some rain. The medina is quieter and more authentic. Pack a warm jacket; the riad has heating.

Dates to plan around

During Ramadan, shop and restaurant hours change and the atmosphere is distinctive — it can be a rewarding time to visit if you know what to expect. Spring long weekends and the year-end holidays are in high demand.
