Three days in Fes: a simple itinerary
Three days is enough to get a feel for Fes without rushing. Here is a flexible plan, built around the riad, to adapt to the weather and your mood.
Day 1 — the heart of the medina
Morning: Bab Bou Jeloud, Talaa Kebira, Bou Inania medersa, the outside of Al-Quaraouiyine. A light lunch in the medina. Afternoon: Seffarine square, the fondouks, Rcif square. Back to the riad for tea, then sunset from the terrace.
Day 2 — crafts and quarters
Morning: the Chouara tanneries and leather shops, the dyers’ souk, the coppersmiths of Seffarine square. Afternoon: the Andalusian quarter and its mosque, Jnan Sbil garden for a breather, or the Nejjarine wood museum.
Day 3 — step back
Depending on your mood: a half-day at the Marinid tombs for the panorama over the medina, or a day trip to Volubilis and Meknes (Roman ruins and an imperial city, about an hour away).
Pacing tips
Allow plenty of time: distances are short but you stop constantly. Keep the end of each day free for the terrace. The riad’s homemade breakfast, served until mid-morning, lets you set off without rushing.
